LEGO Art at San Antonio Botanical Garden

For many years the only places where you could see LEGO art displayed would be the temporary LEGO exhibitions or the LEGOLAND. It is good to see the art of construction bricks brought out to wider audience. Even better it is to see it on a public display, like here at San Antonio Botanical Garden.

Animal, plants and other LEGO sculptures have been commissioned to be scattered around the park and create a welcoming attraction for a younger audience. This move proved to be popular with local community and kids. Regardless of the season, those creations will not lose their colors.

Some constructions show life-like animals in 1:1 scale, others of them are scaled up version of the real things like insects or one particularly nice one of a humming bird drinking from a flower. Every LEGO art piece in San Antonio Botanical Gardens has a description and information on the amount of pieces used to build it. There is amazing amount of details on some of them, like the butterfly or the wasp.

The artist who put all the pieces together is Sean Kenney (‘professional kid’) who makes a living doing just that. Let’s hope the sculptures will last and remain colourful of the benefit of everyone visiting.
